“The things that made you weird as a kid, make you great today.”

What made you weird?

This Book Will Save Your Life

We sell our dreams to pay rent.

We assimilate to be liked or to fit in. To be normal and comfortable. Then, one day, we wake to find ourselves encased in a life that isn’t ours. And we want our life back.

“Hey, Weirdo!” is a concise and raucous guide for everyone who wants to know themselves better and find their way back to their original weird. It’s a valuable map to help you wherever you’ve stepped off your path or gotten lost. It is for those who are sick and tired of being sick and tired, done with wasting their energy holding up their ego and trying to be someone or something they are not.

You were born weird. It’s the meaning you’ve been looking for, it’s why you are here on this planet. And it’s been inside you all this time.

When ignoring your true self has become too painful and the burden of normal has become too great to bear, admit it...

You’re weird.

What if everything you’ve ever wanted lies in embracing who you really are?

Hey, Weirdo! is a rallying cry for the misfits, the kids who were “too much”, the grown-ups still aching to feel whole. Through 9 true stories—from a badass cartoonist mom to an ex-addict ultramarathoner to a Southern Christian mom turned queer ally—this book shows you how to reclaim your voice, your power, and your weirdness.

What People Are Saying

  • Above all of the ideas you help me have, above all of the things you make me think about… You’re making me believe in myself and my painting skills more and more and that’s just  a long-lasting win for my soul. Thank you!

    Sue Hay

  • "My goal as a creator is to make work that matters, work that is unique to me, and helps others in the process… few people understand this better than James Victore. Do not miss 'Hey, Weirdo!'"

    Chase Jarvis

  • "Innovation happens at the edge of reason, and capitalizing on the stuff that is uniquely native to you but unfamiliar and unreasonable to others — is the only way to find it. In 'Hey, Weirdo!' Victore uses his talents in design, storytelling, and provocation to help us embrace and capitalize on our difference, and the world will be better off when we do."

Scott Belsky, Founder of Behance, Author of Making Ideas Happen

  • "This book won’t make you weird—it’s just here to remind you: stop sanding down your edges. Stop trying to fit in. The world doesn’t need another copy-paste version of 'normal.'  It needs you—warts and all."

David Hieatt, Author and co-founder The DO Lectures

  • "In his characteristic bold style, James delivers raw truths about authenticity. His message is simple: when you dare to reveal your genuine self—quirks and all—you'll discover not only a community of like-minded souls but also the liberating joy of living without pretence. Cheers to the journey!"

    Jim Nesbitt

  • "'Hey Weirdo!' is an amazing reminder to embrace the weird things that have always made us curious and creative. I’ve always felt so out of step with the world around me. I self medicated for years to try and fit into it better. Now I take meds, do therapy and barely drink. That little inner weirdo is starting to wake up again. Don’t let the bastards cut you down."em

    Chris Tompkins

  • "What a powerful project!! I loved it."

    Lisa Congdon, artist and writer

  • "The beautiful thing about James' book is the feeling it leaves you with. That you, as you are, are just wonderful. The world needs all of us. We need variety. We need all the expressions of humanity to make a full, whole, interesting world. I am grateful for this book. I just wish it had existed when I was 13, six feet tall and looking for the other weirdos."

Libby DeLana, Author of "Do Walk: Navigate Earth Mind and Body. Step By Step"

  • "From one weirdo who wants other weirdos to win… this book is a must-read. Written by one of the best weirdos out there, it’s officially earned a spot in my “EVERY CREATIVE SHOULD READ THIS” list."

Author Bio

Like you, James Victore has always known he was weird—and always felt out of place because of it. When he was a kid he was called “creative” and it wasn’t a compliment. Holding on to his weird and indomitable spirit has not been the easiest path, but has proved the most rewarding.

Today, James’ work is held in private collections as well as museums around the world and has been exhibited (twice!) at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His clients include Adobe, MailChimp, Starbucks, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Aveda, Time and Esquire Magazines, Moet & Chandon, and The City of New York. He is a highly sought after speaker and teacher on the subject of creativity and his book, “Feck Perfuction: Dangerous Ideas on the Business of Life” (Chronicle) will change your life. Serious.
